back-buttonBACK

Hello! My name is Doe! I turned 67 last week, another year around the wheel, and I am excited to get moving more and to become stronger! My day job is full-time professor at Arizona State University, but a few years ago I went back to school using my handy dandy faculty tuition reduction benefit, and I got a master's of social work (MSW). I am now a part-time licensed social worker in supervised private practice in the state of Arizona. In other words, no matter which job I am doing, I sit all day. My favorite pastime, studying Scots Gaelic and playing video games still put me in a chair. Ugh. I just got accepted into an online master's program in Celtic Studies with the University of Wales, Saint David, starting in October. In other words, this is how I want to go out. I will die a lifetime learner. I gave birth to five children, the oldest of which is now 43. Our second child died seven years ago when she was 35, from complications of diabetes. The child who came after her (39-yo) was murdered about a month ago and so we are experiencing a new significant "missing" in our family's life. We have eight grandchildren, including his one child, a 9-year old girl, all of whom we absolutely adore. I have a beautiful chunk of a black cat and last week I brought home a beautiful brindle puglet, who I named Odin! He has been an amazing healing force for all of us, especially for me, my husband, and our remaining son, who lives near us and helps me with Odin. Life is interesting and rich, even in the face of grief. My highest values are curiosity and compassion (including self-compassion!), which I can apply to all domains of my life, including bringing curiosity and self-compassion to this program. I look forward to this journey with all of you! Cheers, Doe
