Happy Thursday, Mighyu Family! Todays common question is, "How to stay on track and make healthy choices when dining out?" Number one tip is to plan ahead by looking up the menu before going. If you know you are going to be eating out, eat nourishing foods that will keep you full leading up the meal so you will not be tempted by hunger. If this is going to be a meal you want to treat yourself to, choose one area to indulge in such as dessert or a side dish. Keep protein at the START OF YOUR MEAL. A few other tips are: - Control your portions. Restaurant portions are often 2-3 times more than what we really need. So ask for a box right when you get your meal so you can box half up right away. - Skip the appetizers - Stick to water to avoid unnecessary calories from sugary drinks or alcohol - Split a meal with your spouse or friend to also control portions - Structure your plate to have 1/2 veggies, 1/4 protein, 1/4 whole grains. - Give yourself grace. Food should be enjoyed and you should not feel guilty for these choices. Eating mindfully plays a major role in dining out. - Learn what a special occasion is for you, so you do not take every occasion of eating out as reason to go off your personal goals.
